Brainbase Raises $3M to Become the Market Leader in IP Licensing Management

August 20, 2019

A lot has happened in the last 6 months — from our Brainbase Go event with Daymond John to Licensing Expo in Las Vegas to signing up several new great customers, and now this:

Brainbase has raised a new $3M round led by Struck Capital. You can read the story on TechCrunch here.

Tectonic Capital, Bonfire Ventures, Sterling Road, Watertower Ventures, Moomin Characters, Kent Wakeford, Hamid Barkhordar and J.J. List also participated in the round. We’re incredibly thankful to have investors with such a strong track record of investing in legendary technology companies.

Second, we have some new A-Players on our team! Andrea Adelson and Ted Larkins have joined Brainbase as Head of Growth and Head of Business Development, respectively. Andrea was previously SVP of Licensing at Fremantle, the producer and distributor of Family Feud, The Price Is Right and American Idol. Ted was formerly SVP & GM of CPLG North America. Together, they bring over 50 years of strategic licensing experience and will help take Brainbase to new heights.

Third, IP and licensing expert Ray Rehito Hatoyama has joined Brainbase as a Board Observer. Ray is the CEO of Hatoyama Studio and Independent Director at LINE (NYSE: LN). Ray will take a seat on the board, offering strategic insight on new growth opportunities.

But this post is not about the fundraise. It is about where Brainbase is going. So, what are we doing with this money?

  1. Make Brainbase Assist the market leader in IP licensing management by continuing to innovate on new features, like using machine learning for automated contract management, native app integrations and support for every type of licensing agreement, including trademarks and copyrights.
  2. Hiring — Brainbase is growing to ~20 people full-time based in Los Angeles; among them are 8 Senior Full Stack Engineers (Sireesha, Irfan), a new Product Manager (Alon) and a new Customer Success Manager (Christa) to help rapidly accelerate our platform’s development. We’re also hiring an Implementation Team to help customers go live with Brainbase even faster.
  3. Working on our future products, like Marketplace. More on these soon!
  4. Content & Marketing — You may start seeing more of Brainbase around the industry ?

Above all, I want to thank all of our early customers for taking a bet on Brainbase’s vision — for working closely with us to help answer core product questions. You are helping us become great, and we would not be here without your support. We’re excited to continue building the future of Brainbase with you.

Brainbase is stronger than ever — with some of the largest brands now actively using our products, ~20 people full-time based in Los Angeles, a global investor base, and the most IP and licensing experience of any technology company in our industry.

But we’re certainly not satisfied with where we are, and we will never stop improving.
